Vibes Fitness has been working with clients to heal and rehabilitate back pain with successful results. Some symptoms of back pain may be caused by 'sciatica' which is a result of pressure being placed on the sciatic nerve. Over the last 12 years of working with clients who suffer from back pain I have found that there are a few conditions that may be causing your back pain. Listed below are four conditions, which may be causing your back pain. Piriformis Syndrome
![]() These four conditions are all caused by Muscle Imbalances. What is a Muscle Imbalance? You have a muscle imbalance when a muscle overpowers the opposing muscle. Visualize a tug of war, when your muscles are out of balance they pull your bones and joints out of their normal position and this places your bones and joints under constant stress and uneven pressure. Numerous muscles & whether they are balanced determine the position and curvature of your spine. Nearly every muscle in your body affects your spine and if just one of these muscles is out of balance then you will have a problem.
Identifying and addressing Muscle Imbalances is extremely important with Spinal Stenosis. Try to maintain as close to a normal curvature of the spine. The more your spine is pulled out of place the tighter the space gets in the spinal canal. THERE ARE OVER 640 MUSCLES IN THE BODY! Here is an example of the normal position of the spine and pelvis:
I want you to think for a moment about your body and your car and what they might have in common. We may have at some point in our lives driven a car with unbalanced tyres or driven with the steering wheel out of alignment. As a result, your tyres will wear down unevenly and much more quickly than normal and sometimes the tyres will even blow out. Our car is like our bodies. Our muscles are affected by your body alignment and basic mechanics. Even small muscle imbalances can place loads of uneven pressure on other parts and create unnecessary wear and tear on your whole body including the spine and its supporting muscles. Other possible causes of back pain: AGING: As we get older the body’s ligaments (tough connective tissues between the bones and the spine) can thicken. Spurs (small growths) may develop on the bones and into the spinal canal. TRAUMA: Injuries or accidents can dislocate the spine and the spinal canal. This can cause burst fractures that produce fragments of bone that penetrate the canal. HEREDITY: Structural deformities of the vertebrae may cause narrowing of the spinal canal. If the spinal canal is too small at birth, symptoms of spinal stenosis many show up in a relatively young person. FLUOROSIS: Fluorosis is an excess level of fluoride in the body. It may result from chronic inhalation of industrial dusts or gases contaminated with fluorides, or ingestion of water containing large amounts of fluoride or accidental ingestion of fluoride from other sources. This condition may lead to calcified spinal ligaments or softened bones and to degenerative conditions like spinal stenosis. Our team has successfully rehabilitated our clients from back pain.
